El 4 de junio de 1930, zarparon del puerto de Guayaquil tres soñadores del arte, luego con grandes sacrificios, hicieron realidad las primeras grabaciones eléctricas con artistas ecuatorianos, ellos fueron: Nicasio Safadi, Enrique Ibáñez Mora (Dúo Ecuador) y José Domingo Feraud Guzmán, precursor de esta hazaña.
Por este motivo, recordando un acontecimiento trascendental en la vida de la historia artística ecuatoriana, se ha consagrado el 4 de junio de cada año, para rendir pleitesía al Artista Ecuatoriano que enaltece los valores de la cultura y el arte de nuestro pueblo.
El 4 de junio de 1930 ante el impulso arrollador de la naciente fonográfica mundial, un visionario guayaquileño, el señor José Domingo Feraud Guzmán, incentivado por su sentido patriótico sobre todo con su afán por contar con un testimonio fonográfico que acredite a las composiciones e intérpretes ecuatorianos, que realizó las gestiones necesarias para que el dúo arriba mencionado efectuara un viaje a Nueva York con el objeto de grabar los primeros discos de música y cantantes nacionales. Anteriormente, sólo las voces extranjeras de Margarita Cueto, Juan Arbízu y el dúo " Briceño Añez", habían editado temas ecuatorianos; y no se disponían de grabaciones nacionales, ante la imposibilidad técnica de realizarlas en Ecuador.
He aquí a estos pioneros artísticos; y fue así como en un acontecimiento sin precedentes, partieron a Norteamérica: Nicasio Safadi, Enrique Ibáñez Mora y José Domingo Feraud Guzmán; se trasladaron al bordo del buque Santa Teresita el 4 de junio de 1930, el viaje duró 15 días y el dueto" Ecuador", ofreció varios recitales escogiendo de su repertorio 38 canciones. En Nueva York, se pusieron en contacto con la " Columbia Phonograph Company" procediéndose de inmediato a preparar las primeras grabaciones, siendo el primer tema editado " Guayaquil de mis amores", el mismo que fue matrizado en cera, según la técnica de estos tiempos.
Director artístico de la grabación fue el español Enrique Madriguera de "Columbia Records".
El acontecimiento no pasó desapercibido para la farándula continental y para los críticos de la prensa de Nueva York, que destacaron en particular las presentaciones radiales del dúo Ecuatoriano, las mismas que se efectuaron en la emisora WGY de Schenectady y WNYG, estaciones de Nueva York. Por otra parte se hizo notar la trascendencia de las primeras grabaciones con música y cantantes del país Ecuador; siendo así como empezó la historia de la canción grabada, según nos narra T. Williams.
Por tal razón recoge este acontecimiento histórico e importante nuestra historia artística para consagrar y rendir el 4 de junio el homenaje que se merece el artista ecuatoriano, y el pentagrama nacional.
El Gobierno Nacional, expidió la Ley de Defensa del Artista Profesional Ecuatoriano, para corresponderá sus esfuerzos y sacrificios en bien de la divulgación de la música y del folclore nacionales; en ella están amparados los cantantes instrumentistas, directores y miembros de orquesta, compositores, animadores de programas, folcloristas, etc., quienes se han dedicado a esta tarea difícil y sublime de llevar el mensaje de la patria por todos sus rincones y fuera de los linderos nacionales.
